Believing that God wanted to make a place for children of the Philippine islands to be nurtured so that they would prosper spiritually and physically in their own land, Connie Andrews and her late husband, Vernon, began the work with four girls in 1981.
Today, there are around 55 children in two houses in a village near the city of Tarlac on Luzon
island.
The children go through Elementary School, High School and many go onto Further Education. They come from 70% of the population living under the UN poverty line.
Kathryn Thompson is a trustee of Rehoboth Children’s Homes Trust and a resident volunteer. She spends on average ten months of the year out in the Philippines, living at the Home, and the rest of the time back in the U.K.
Her main duties involve teaching the children English and giving extra support for their school
work; liaising between the Rehoboth trustees & committee in the U.K. and the Rehoboth staff & board of directors in the Philippines; providing regular prayer updates and compiling newsletters and new publicity material; working with and supporting the Executive Director of Rehoboth assisting with administrative tasks and anything else that needs doing!
She has been living and working in the Philippines since 2003. For the first two years she was based in Manila volunteering for a Christian charity there, and in July 2005 she moved to Rehoboth to become a resident volunteer at the Home. She does not receive a salary but is supported by individuals and churches who contribute to her expenses.
