It will surprise many UK Christians to read that there are evangelical Arab Christians in Israel. But there are and we are delighted to be welcoming Azar Ajaj, from the Nazareth Evangelical Theological Seminary, to speak at our 2017 World Mission Sunday.
For 13 years Azar served as the pastor of the Baptist Church in Nazareth, and worked as an executive for the United Bible Society in Israel for 10 years, where he enhanced relationships between local Arab churches and directed outreach projects to the Muslim community. For 6 years he also served as the General Secretary of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students in Israel.
Currently, Azar lectures at the Seminary and is completing his PhD at Spurgeon’s College in London. He recently published Arab Evangelicals in Israel, which provides an introduction to the history, challenges and hopes of contemporary evangelical Arab Christians in Israel.
Azar has been married to Ibtisam for 21 years. They have 3 sons; the oldest is studying mechanical engineering in Berlin, Germany, the other two are still in school.
Azar will be at our World Mission Sunday Celebration, at a church lunch and also at Generation Rising (to which everyone is invited).
