Church Office revised opening hours

image

From 1 April 2012, the Church Office will be open from Tuesday to Friday from 9am until 1pm.  During those hours, our office team will be happy to assist you with GBC office and administrative matters.  You can leave a voicemail message or email at any time.

Our paid staff may be working from their GBC offices at other times and, as always, will help wherever possible with office questions. However, please do not rely on them being present to gain access to the building or answer the telephone.

If you need to speak to one of the pastors when the office is closed, as previously, it is best to call their mobile number:

John:  07704 122352 | Adrian: 07912 282482 | Daniel:  07909 767505.

HELPING TO HEAL: HOW CHURCHES CAN SUPPORT SURVIVORS OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE

A SPRING MINISTRIES’ TRAINING DAY – 3 MARCH 2012 AND 29 SEPTEMBER 2012

Sexual abuse, according to research, affects 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys.  That equates to about 10 million people in the UK who are survivors of sexual abuse.  A report by the Church of England said that 80% of churchgoing women will go to someone in church for help rather than a counsellor or other professional.

There has been a welcome increase in recent years in the availability of training around child protection issues in churches. But there is very little information and training available on how to respond well to adult survivors of child sexual abuse.  This training day looks to plug that gap.

On this ‘Helping to Heal’ training day we will look at some basic information, to lay a foundation, such as:

· what is child sexual abuse?

· what is the ‘spectrum of abuse’?

· what is the impact of abuse on people’s [...Full item]

Could you host a competitor’s family member?

Gold key

COULD YOU – OR SOMEONE you know – give hospitality to family members of a 2012 Games competitor? Without this kind of help, the high cost of accommodation will mean many not being able to attend and give their support.

More Than Gold’s Athlete Family Homestay Programme was launched last month with Stephanie Cook MBE (pictured), whose family used the programme when she competed in Sydney. Now we just need the right people to come forward.

Hosts provide bed and breakfast for at least eight days for up to two guests. In addition they will also give the practical help needed for their guests to make the most of their stay during the Games.
